IKAT

IKAT Sarees

Over the four hundred years of its existence, IKAT Sarees are made in Pochampally, Telangana.

History –  Ikat is historically rooted in many different cultures across the globe, the weaving techniques though similar, tend to vary. Patterns in ikat are produced from resist dyeing yarn before it is woven into fabric.

Characteristics – Traditionally, patterns were derived from local folk lore or religious symbols. Over the four hundred years of its existence, Ikat designs have evolved and now represent an interesting blend of traditional and modern motifs ranging from floral to zoomorphic and geometric designs. Pochampally is a cluster of 40 villages, in Nalgonda and Yadadri districts that weaves traditional geometric patterns in Ikat style of dyeing and weaving.
