Pedana

Fabrics of Pedana

Kalamkari is a type of hand-painted or block-printed Cotton Textile art involving 17 steps and only Natural Dyes are used in Kalamkari.

History – It evolved with the patronage of the Mughals and the Golkonda Sultanate and this school was influenced by Persian art.

Characteristics – Kalamkari cluster consisting of Pedana, Polavaram and Kappaladoddi in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. As the products got monotonous the sales dipped and hence the livelihoods became precarious.

Abhihaara is trying to re-invent the craft to suit ever evolving market requirements in partnership with SEEDAP with the sole aim of providing employment to both rural youth and women through many associated crafts like block designing, block making carving etc.
